Anna has been concerned about the weather and his coat. She discusses a letter she recieved from a woman about songs. She hopes he will write R W Johnson and H Van O Morris. Also, she discusses Duffield will not take Gerda's book. She continued about arranging something with the Powell's.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
